The Gulf Coast Animal Hospital (later renamed the Veterinary Hospital of Clearwater) was opened by Dr. Steadman Carr in 1958, in response to a need for a quality, full-service veterinary care facility serving the greater Clearwater, Dunedin, Safety Harbor area. At that time US 19 and State Road 580 (Main Street) was just two lanes each. There was just an empty field where the Countryside Mall now stands across from our hospital. Dr. Carr's ideals were Top notch veterinary care on the cutting edge in an animal hospital where you are treated like family. Those ideals have continued with Dr. Bendit and our staff. These are just some of the reasons caring pet owners have chosen us since 1958 and why their children continue to make us their family veterinarians.
When Dr. Carr retired in 2005, he knew Dr. Mitchel Bendit was the right fit to become the sole practicing doctor at the Veterinary Medical Hospital of Clearwater. Dr. Bendit has been practicing veterinary medicine for over 30 years.
Lisa has over 20 years of experience in all aspects of animal and pet care. She started at a young age working with and training Arabian horses in North Florida. She is active in feral cat care and is basically a loving caring person who loves helping people and pets.
We personally feed 3 "feral" cat colonies with about 30 cats in total. We spay/neuter and vaccinate them. We release any that are not a good fit for adoption. We try to rescue any new kittens and place them in foster care until they can be adopted into a loving family. We work with many local rescue organizations including Suncoast Animal Rescue.
Regina is a veterinary technician. She helps both in the rooms and at the front desk. Regina volunteers at Big Cat Rescue and works at another animal hospital/ER when not working at our hospital.
Traci is a certified Veterinary Technician. In her twenty years of experience in the animal care field; she has managed an animal hospital and taught veterinary technicians in a higher education setting so they could become certified. We are very fortunate to have someone of her skill level and commitment.
Jazmine is a trained veterinary assistant. She came to us from a veterinary dental practice. Not only is she very proficient at dental cleaning and prophylaxis, she is friendly and knowledgeable in all aspects of animal care, flea prevention and heartworm prevention.
Izzy came to us after working for a nearby animal hospital in their kennel. Izzy can be found hugging or carrying around the hospital cat "Macho," or at the front desk or helping in a room. Izzy has a smile for everyone.
The most wonderful Veterinarian office ever!! Thank you for taking the time to explain everything! The whole staff was amazing!! The pricing was extremely fair, and I've got my fat Ollie on a good weight-loss program. Bring your beloved pets here and I promise you will be happy!
I came here for the first time last year.. I'm very happy with the Doctors and staff. This is the second year that I bring Sophie for her check-up. I will keep referring it to my friends. Thank you all for a great service.
The low cost shot clinic on Saturdays and Wednesdays is legit. I pulled up, called the # to let them know I arrived, and they came out with a clipboard and paperwork.
Love everyone here! Friendly staff members Who truly do care about you and your fur baby. And the best part is they're honest it's not a payday to them. The prices are very fair and they will not rip you off by adding on exams or procedures or even testing that you don't really need.
